Meet Emma Dorren
While the velvety darkness gently wraps itself around the dozing city, one window is still illuminated by a stubborn flickering light. Emma wakes up. Shit! How long has she been dozing in the lethargic fumes of oil paint and hobby glue? She lifts her head from the desk and rubs the sleep from her eyes. The crust of the half-eaten sandwich is stuck to her cheek. On the index finger of her right hand, a small hand made of papier-mâché is clinging. Emma looks at it bewildered. Oh yes, that's what she was doing!
Fully awake now, she quickly puts the sandwich in her mouth while delicately peeling the small hand from her finger. In front of her, among pots of paint, crumpled newspaper, tubes of glue, and a pile of brushes, pencils, pens, and markers, lies the puppet of the Big Friendly Nose.
As a passionate puppet lover and artist, Emma creates quirky animations using stop-motion animation as her favorite medium. For this, she uses self-made models, puppets and sets. Driven by her unique blend of meticulous craftsmanship, playful imagination, sharp intuition, and a rebellious touch of black humor, she crafts whimsical characters and personalities from tangible materials, bringing them to life on screen. Her love for the eccentric leads her to explore beyond the beaten paths, embracing challenges on uncharted creative territory where she feels entirely in her element. Her pieces, often presenting themselves as whimsical fantasies, demand flawless mastery of her craft and careful consideration of each element and detail. While her art brings together her imagination and skills, she creates stories that manifest in a meticulous and captivating manner. Through her work, she provides a distinctive visual experience that takes the viewer on an immersive journey, leaving them craving for more.
By now, the night has long fallen. Emma looks outside and sees the stars beginning their dance in the dark purple sky. She grabs pen and paper and writes down: 'stars dancing in the sky.' She can already envision the puppets for it.
The Nose is ready by now. Its long arms with small hands dangle awkwardly along its nose body. Its large feet keep it firmly upright. Tomorrow, Emma will set up the stage, and the Nose will embark on its quest for pizza. She grins at it, turns off the light, and walks to the bedroom. In the dark, the Nose grins back.
